Mission |
|
The Upward Bound 5th Street Express will help consumers develop their social life, develop leisure skills, help overcome loneliness, isolation and provide relief from stress in a cost effective setting. It will provide, in a very comfortable way, an atmosphere of acceptance with a sense of belonging.

Description |
|
Upward Bound 5th Street Express is a drop in center where adults meet other adults, most of whom struggle with stress, anxiety, depression or other mental health disorders. Members socialize, enjoy crafts, cooking, potluck dinners, picnics, games, and participate in community events. There is no cost for membership and most activities are free. Transportation is available for most activities.
Upward Bound is governed by a 5 member consumer board of directors. Two members are elected each year at the Annual Meeting. Members are also encouraged to serve on the Sunshine Committee and/or Kitchen Committee.

Services |
Upward Bound members have the opportunity to work on charitable projects throughout the year. Monthly, members make greeting cards that are sent to our troops serving overseas. Members have worked together to tie blankets for kids in foster care, to make quilts for new babies and lap blankets for the local nursing home. Annually we decorate a tree on Fairmont's Downtown Plaza for the holidays. Opportunities are offered for members to attend presentations to learn more about different mental illnesses.
